Solutions catalogue for sites

Generally, the protection of outdoor areas can be divided into three categories, each with its own characteristics and solutions: public spaces and open squares; urban spaces and roads; and outdoor areas close to buildings.

As a starting point, all three categories should work towards a holistic security solution with layered security from the outside inwards; however, the limitations of the urban space, may reduce the possibilities for this kind of solution. When protecting outdoor areas close to buildings, it is also essential to work on a security strategy that includes both the building and its outdoor spaces.

Taking a timely and holistic approach to security design will often make it possible to integrate the security measures into the overall project design, thus avoiding patchwork solutions that are typically less functional, more expensive, and unattractive.

In the following, you will find examples of integrated security measures for the three categories as well as temporary measures. The examples are not exhaustive but should serve as inspiration.

Below you will also find examples of mitigated attack scenarios and the tools (security measures) that the architect can use in this work.
