Security culture

What is security culture about?

When talking about security culture, we are dealing with the way an organisation and its employees perceive and manage risks and accidents/incidents. There are both good and bad examples of security culture, but in general organisations should strive to achieve a good and strong security culture, where employees feel it is safe to work on every day.

Defining culture in this context is a prerequisite for a common understanding. In this context, culture is about the way of life and the world of conceptions in which we operate - everything from communication and media images to experiences, traditions and prejudices, etc.

Security measures cannot stand alone, and your security culture must follow coherently to get the most out of your physical security and electronic surveillance. It is, therefore, essential to work with a holistic approach to safety and security, where the security culture embraces the human factor, the architecture and the physical security measures in interaction with each other.

A sound security culture is characterised, among other things, by leadership that promotes safety in everyday life and among employees who have a high level of critical awareness of actions that deviate from the norm.

In this section, you can gain insight into what constitutes a sound security culture and what it takes to achieve it.
