Reinforcement of existing building

When reinforcing a building to achieve a higher security level, the threats the building must be able to withstand, must first be clarified. There is a big difference in magnitude and cost of different protective security measures that can be implemented. As such, there is a big difference between protecting against explosives and protecting against forced penetration using manual tools.

When protecting against blasts, calculations of the load bearing structure must be carried out before implementing protective measures. It may need reinforcement to enable work to achieve the desired level of security. Then, the work to secure the façade can begin, e.g. installing security windows and doors, as well as fastening façade elements, etc.

If a reinforcement is installed to increase penetration time, such as for an ordinary brick wall, this can be done by installing a regular plywood sheet on the inner side of the wall. This simple reinforcement will increase the breakthrough time by several minutes without incurring large costs.

When reinforcing existing buildings, there is no fixed template for the execution, as all structures are different. Therefore, you should consult a professional who will be able to find a suitable solution, where e.g. the retrofitting of protective security measures, could solve the task.
