Certified and non-certified security

The collective security solution must achieve the desired level of protection (security level), determined by a risk assessment. The desired effect and robustness of the physical security and electronic surveillance are also defined as part of the overall solution.

The security measures included in the collective solution can be certified or non-certified. It is important to know the difference so that you implement measures that are certified or non-certified – or a combination of both – according to your requirements.

Certified measures are tested and approved in accordance with national or international standards. This can be, e.g. how well a door can withstand intrusion attempts. It is vital that professionals carry out the installation of certified measures.

Non-certified measures can also be used if they provide the desired protective effect. To confirm this, tests or calculations of the measure’s resistance capabilities must be performed. An example of this is the use of sculptures or benches instead of certified bollards to secure an area against vehicle-borne attacks.
