Geographical location of the site

Firstly, the site's geographical location needs to be considered: this could include access to the site, neighbours and terrain. For new builds the organisation's choice of physical location in relation to the public space is thus an essential parameter in relation to the overall security of the building.
If the building is located in an urban area, this often reduces the distance to neighbours, which could mean a limited choice of protective security measures. Location outside densely developed areas allows for distance to be established towards neighbours and the public. Also consider how to utilise geological features, such as placement of the building by water or on a hill, etc.
The site's location in the surrounding community can be relevant for security, with an increased stand-off zone, increased response times and the protection of one’s own building, as well as surrounding buildings
