Protecting events

In recent years terrorist and violent extremist attacks have typically focused on targets of symbolic importance and soft targets to create maximum media coverage and fear. Events where large numbers of people gather or where there is public focus can therefore be considered to have an elevated threat level.
It should also be noted that event security is a sizeable undertaking, often requiring crowd management and security experience.
A security plan and a trained security team are the most important parts of the event protection, as the physical environment most often is only temporarily protected. This is due to the inherent physical constraints of the site and its daily function/use, as well as the non-permanent activity of the event. Temporary security measures are less robust than fixed physical security installations.
